Featuring a standard mid cut, a look from the side, the Stupidly Light shows off the Sprint Web upper, supported by the Adidas three stripe logo made of plastic. The lines of the shoe are relatively straightforward, as the shapes created with the upper openings give the style touch. To begin, we are greeted below with a familiar sight. Like the Pro Model 0 and adiZero™ Ghost the S-shaped outsole, with the wavebone traction pattern and flex grooves is present. The outsole is complete with the stacked midsole, supported with the large TORSION® SYSTEM plate.
Also similar to the adiZero™ Ghost is the toe box. For this model, the toe box is made up of a thin nubuck material, but for standard versions, the thin, shiny, and light material is used. The toe box is stitched on to the Sprint Web sides forming an arrow head shape, as the sides run diagonally to the forefoot. A lace hoop branded with a small Adidas logo sits at the throat line, while a four trapezoidal shape design is added for ventilation and weight reduction. Both sides share symmetry, having a Sprint Web base. With nylon cut outs littering the sides, the Sprint Web is supported by a plastic Adidas three stripe logo, serving also as eyelet reinforcements.
At the rear, a stiff heel counter is covered by a stitched patent leather covering. A carbon fiber like design is ingrained into the patent leather and there are two triangular portions cut into the leather, made of a textured synthetic. At the top of this section is a small triangular rubber flap featuring another Adidas logo. Moving up, the collar is integrated into the Sprint Web from the sides, and is slightly segmented. Padding is thick and stiff, with lining coming in the form of a diamond shaped textured synthetic material.
Thin oval laces come standard with the Stupidly Light, running through seven eyelets. The eyestay is made up of the Sprint Web sides, with the middle eyelets reinforced by the plastic Adidas logo, and the final two eyelets reinforce with metal and punctured into a patent leather portion on the collar. The padded tongue is draped in a nylon covering with a nubuck patch stitched on the flaring top. With a lace holder in the middle, this patch is designed with a three shape cut out and a black Adidas logo in the center. Rounding out the Stupidly Light is a thin and light weight PU insole. The insole is designed with curvature around the heel and arch, topped off with an Adidas logo at the heel.
Comfort and Fit
Through the rigid Sprint Web upper, the Stupidly Light is narrow around the foot and arch. The fit is true to size, with the plastic Adidas three stripe logo acting almost as though it was a mid foot strap when laced tight. Luckily, the Sprint Web is thin and does not create an overly crowded feel. The pressure down the center of the foot is in contrast to a more roomy toe box area. At the toe box, a contrast between the middle of the foot is observed, as there is plenty of room width and length wise, and going half a size down for a better fit up front may beneficial for some players. Light and thin, the patent leather toe box sits close, with a good sense of flexibility. The most comfortable aspect of the shoe is found at the ankle area. Again there is a contrast between the light and thin upper with the sufficiently padded collar, as the ankles are protected securely by the tongue and collar combination. Heel lock down is superb, with the heels fitting into the stiff counter seamlessly, as protection felt around the sides of the heel. On the footbed, cushioning is on the hard side, but there prominent support for the arch and lateral forefoot, keeping the foot from lying flat. Overall, the Stupidly Light brings a very supportive, protective, and somewhat rigid fit, with a solid foundation.
